"Red Lace" House Snake, B. Maculatus
Description
Boaedon Maculatus is a dwarf species of house snake collected in and near Tanzania. A few decades ago, these used to be imported as "red lace" house snakes. They do tend to turn a ruddy red as they age. The common name is "dotted house snake". We believe this girl is b.maculatus versus b. capensis for a few reasons, her mother is 5 years old and still less than 200 grams, and her father is still feeding on fuzzy mice. They both gained red color as they aged. Her eye stripes and patterns match other confirmed sightings, and her parents were collected together from Tanzania.
So while there isn't a documented definitive way to prove she is b. maculatus, her price reflects this and she's certainly not b.capensis either. She'll be a neat project or pet for someone who likes the idea of a dwarf red house snake.
She's a voracious eater of live newborn pinky mice, the smaller the better for now.
